Mike Bolan received the BCF President's Award for services to chess
A welcome visitor to Ashtead Chess Club in December was Roy Heppinstall, Chief Executive Officer of the British Chess Federation, who presented on of the BCF's major trophies, "The President's Award", to Michael Bolan, a long-standing and very popular member of the Club.
The award was given in recognition of Michael's long and extremely valuable service to the chess community.
Michael Bolan, a club member since the 1960s, was captain of the first team for many years and recently stepped down to run the second team. He has been particularly responsible for coaching and looking after the Club's thriving Junior Section, which has produced some of the strongest junior players in the county.
The evening was most enjoyable and gave members a relaxing change from their regular games of chess.
